Editor's review

This creates a small calendar in Excel when you need to pick a date.

This Excel Date Picker that creates a pop-up calendar in Excel is an add-in program for Microsoft Excel. No VBA or macro code has been used in the design of the tool and it works for both traditional Excel toolbar as well as the ribbon menu styles. This add-in is compatible with Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, both 32 and 64 bit. This add-in is intelligent enough that it will recognize the fields that have been formatted as date cells. It will also recognize cells that contain a date or is below the heading “Date”. The pop-up calendar will show several months, show week numbers, etc. It will recognize dates in all the valid formats acceptable in Windows/Excel. Because it is shown in a calendar format, there will be no confusion in picking a date.

When entering a date value, you click on the cell and an in-cell icon button appears. On clicking the icon button the calendar is displayed. You need to simply click the desired date. Controls are available if you need to go back or forward by months and years. If you like, the calendar could be displayed automatically when a date cell is selected. In the ribbon menu based versions, the pop-up Excel Calendar creates a separate tab "Pop-up Calendar". The tab contains 5 buttons, as Calendar, Settings, Disable, Help and About Calendar. The calendar menu items display the calendar. Settings item controls how the calendar works. Disable menu item will help disable it. The other menu items have the usual meaning. This is a good tool and you could try it out if needed.

Publisher's description

Excel Date Picker is a completely redesigned version of Pop-up Excel Calendar. It now supports all the new Windows and Excel versions, both 64 and 32 bit. There are also a number of interesting features and options added to the program. For example, you can tell the date picker to show the calendar 2 months in width and 1 month in height. New options in Excel Date Picker include calendar background color, calendar border color and showing week numbers.
Pop-up Excel Calendar is a date picker for Microsoft Excel. It runs inside Excel and when you activate a cell where a date value muse be entered, it pops up a calendar to let you pick or select a date from the calendar, instead of typing in manually. This helps you save time and avoid common mistakes found in working with date values. For example, Should you enter dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy? Do you enter slashes or dashes or dots?
Pop-up Excel Calendar detects date cells based on various conditions, including the format or value of the active cell, the label or format of the above cell, etc. All these are configurable. If a date cell is detected, an in-cell icon button appears, which you can click to pop-up the calendar to pick or select a date value - or, you can set an option to have the calendar pops up automatically. Besides that, you can also activate the calendar manually on any cell by selecting the command from toolbar, context menu, and ribbon tab in Excel 2007. Pop-up Excel Calendar offers options to let you decide where to add the calendar command.
The date picker also provides other useful options. For example, you can set the First Day of Week option to adjust the calendar layout; set the Default Date Format option to have the calendar set a date format if the target cell is not formatted as date. With Custom Formats, you can even control what formats are valid date formats and what are not.
